tricks against pitting and corrosion
To avoid unwanted grinding results on stainless steel we noticed a few practical tips for handcrafter and the industry. Because if you do not know what is right, you should not do what is the wrong one. This quote is so true and is focused also with Lechner stainless steel surfaces.
Edge rounding for stainless steelprofiles in customized lengths
Post-processing grinding of stainless steel profiles as fixed lengths is possible, but however, on closer inspection you can see the effects:
- Stainless steel profile edges are rounded
- no homogeneous grinding pattern
- Blurred drill holes
- overall uneconomical and ecological misconduct
- missing material when welding or tacking to the counterpart
That is why it is better and our recommendation to grind stainless steel profiles to the production length, then work out mechanical processing such as drilling, milling, sawing etc. You are welcome to take advantage of our processing service such as sawing etc.
For economic reasons, it is advisable, especially for small quantities, because the set-up costs are much lower. A popular argument is that you then have the remaining stainless steel profile somewhere in the warehouse. An economic reason of capital commitment is also cited, but you have already paid for the raw stainless steel profile anyway and the grinding costs are much lower in comparison if you have exactly the remaining length of the stainless steel profile already ground and protected with laser foil in stock.
As result: grinding of customized lengths has the same logic as driving a car only halfway into the car wash or using glasses without useful lenses!
