Brass flatbar ready for gilding

Brass flat material mirror polished

Highly polished brass flat material must be protected against oxidation. With this documentation we want to show you how important this process is. Polishing highly polished brass is a very nice way to shine the material in its wonderful colour.

The zinc content in the brass, determines the corrosion resistance and thus reactivity in combination with oxygen. Additions of nickel and manganese have an advantageous effect on the corrosion resistance to the atmosphere and in waters.

On our skin there is always a protective film of sweat. In the skin sweat oils, lipids, fats and tallow and a fluctuating concentration of chloride-containing salts. The combination of all the materials lets the brass react. With these pictures we want to show you the influence of humidity and sweat on brass surfaces.

The brass profiles were all highly polished at the same time. The dusty surface can be easily recognized as such as well as the humidity has uniformly colored the surface. The following applies: Every brass surface must be protected against scratches and corrosion.
